Who is the Flightless Aviator?

Why does this blog exist? A few reasons: the growing community of people dedicated to professional development, the increasing complexity of today’s military and what that means for those in uniform, and even my own selfish need to get ideas out of my head and onto paper (or a web page…you know what I mean). Above all, I hope the blog helps people.

Because in today’s environment, I think Air Force people need all the support they can get. Air Forces are changing, and we need to change with them. So what does it mean to be part of an Air Force today…especially if you don’t fly planes? I think we’re still working on that answer…but I want to be a part of that journey and I hope you do too.

So this blog will tackle topics in areas like leadership, career progression, culture and other topics that are relevant for modern Aviators. If you have any thoughts or suggestions for an article let me know.

Stay safe and keep smiling.

-Matt

PS. What’s with the emu?

I thought I’d choose a flightless Australian bird as the logo for the blog (you know, Flightless Aviator? Ah…forget it). Anyways, this guy’s name is Henry and he’s the creation of Garance Monfort (check out the RAAF logo on his satchel).

You can see more of Garance’s work here.
